Appointment and Patient Information: FAQ

REFERRALS

Patients need a current referral from a doctor to see Dr Reid or Dr Rudzki.

The item numbers used by our Specialists are dependant on a current referral. Without one, you will not be able to receive a rebate from Medicare.

If you were referred from your GP, your referral will last 12 months.

If you were referred from a Specialist, your referral will only last 3 months.

If it is past the expiry period of your referral you will need to see your referring doctor for a new one.

WHAT TO BRING

Apart from your referral, please bring any scans, pathology results and medication list with you so that the doctors can fully assess your condition. This also prevents duplicate investigations being ordered. You will also need to bring your Medicare Card.
Please wear suitable clothing that you are comfortable to be assessed in and allow for the injured area to be accessed. Some areas are more sensitive to assess, so swimwear is often suggested and you are welcome to bring someone with you to your appointment.

FEES

Fees for consultations can be given to you when you call for an appointment. The fee will be for a half hour appointment and cost may vary if the consultation is longer or if any procedures are undertaken.

Payment is expected at time of consultation.

In most cases we are able to submit your claim to Medicare for your rebate.

The practice does not Bulk Bill patients other than in exceptional cases. If you are experiencing difficulty paying, please discuss this with your doctor or the reception staff.

There is a cancellation fee if an appointment is cancelled within 24 of the scheduled appointment time. Reminders are sent out 2 days prior to the appointment. Please make sure you respond Yes or No so we know if you are attending or not. If you fail to attend an appointment without cancelling it, you will be charged half the standard consultation fee.

Patients with a HealthCare card or on a pension may receive a discount. Please inform the reception staff if this applies to you.

WORKERS’ COMPENSATION AND THIRD PARTY CLAIMS

Unfortunately, Dr Reid does not take referrals for either Workers’ Compensation or Third Party Claims.

Dr Rudzki will see both Worker’s Compensation and Third Party patients but we will need written approval from the insurance company, claim number and address for invoicing. We will also need a signed authority from you that you consent for information to be released to the insurance company if appropriate.

If you do not have an approval you will need to pay for the consultation and claim back from your insurance company.

PATIENT INFORMATION

SCOPE OF PRACTICE

Please note that our doctors are Sports and Exercise Physicians. They are not GPs, and cannot act as such.

Please be advised that, whilst they are happy to treat you for the condition that you have been referred to them for, they cannot assume your GP’s role for other medical issues.

ZERO TOLERANCE

WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU

Staff have the right to be treated with dignity and respect at all times without the risk of abuse, threatening behaviour or violence.

This behaviour will not be tolerated towards our staff and will result in offenders being asked to leave.

TELEPHONE CONSULTATIONS

Currently, the item number for a review telephone appointment has been continued by Medicare.

Please note that this is only for a follow up appointment for an issue already assessed by the doctor at an in-person consultation and cannot be for the assessment of a new issue.

There will be a co-payment for these appointments based on the time spent with the doctor.

Telephone consultations cannot be the sole contact with the doctor. You will need to book an in-person consultation after a maximum period of 6 months.

PRESCRIPTIONS

Prescription requests by telephone or email:

Our doctors can only write repeat prescriptions for medications that they have already prescribed for you.

Once ready, these can be collected from reception or can be faxed to your chosen pharmacy.

Telephone or email requests for repeat prescriptions will attract a fee.
